Program Overview and Content

The purpose of the Health Science Center Mentor/Protégé program is to identify and overcome barriers that typically inhibit or restrict the success of minority-, women- and disabled veteran-owned businesses currently certified as State of Texas Historically Underutilized Businesses (HUB) by encouraging relationships with these established businesses.

Our mission is:

  • To foster long-term relationships between established prime contractors and HUBs;
  • To increase the ability of HUBs to contract with the state or to receive subcontracts under a state contract;
  • To increase the overall participation of HUBs in State of Texas subcontracting.

Program Goals

  • Realization of protégé business leaders' competency in select areas of identified need.
  • Protégés' increased ability to realize long-term stability in their respective industry.

Scope and Responsibility

Guidelines and procedures apply to all potential mentors and protégé businesses applying to the Health Science Center for sponsorship.

The Health Science Center HUB coordinator is responsible for the administration of the agency's Mentor/Protégé program. The HUB coordinator shall promulgate forms consistent with the guidelines and procedures of the Health Science Center Mentor/Protégé program.

Guidelines Statement

It is the intent of the Health Science Center Mentor/Protégé program to build effective working relationships between leaders of mature established businesses and emerging minority and women owned businesses in order for the latter to benefit from the knowledge and experience of established businesses.
