May 2018: Memorial Day
To the HSC Community,
As Memorial Day approaches, we honor those who gave their lives in military service for our freedoms. Their legacies are lasting reminders of the commitment made by men and women in uniform every day.
Many of us will enjoy extra time with family and friends this holiday weekend. To the families of our fallen patriots and those with loved ones currently protecting us from afar—we appreciate your sacrifice and honor your selflessness.
Recognizing our armed forces is particularly important at Texas A&M. Our Aggie heritage includes a rich legacy of military service. The Corp of Cadets is the largest uniformed body of students and has historically produced more officers than any other institution in the nation, outside the service academies. With 78 actively enrolled veterans across the Health Science Center and 15 health sciences graduates who commissioned, or will commission, this month, Texas A&M’s military roots run deep.
Let us strive—today and every day—to honor our fallen soldiers and salute the dedicated men and women who put their lives on the line to protect this country. We owe them our deepest gratitude.
With warmest wishes,
Carrie L. Byington, MD
