HSC Logo and Tagline

Bringing Learning to Life

As part of its Pathways to Excellence 2015 strategic plan, the Texas A&M Heath Science Center developed and instituted the use of a new logo and tagline to emphasize that our faculty, staff and students are devoted to the precept that all people – regardless of geography, economics or culture – deserve the benefits of compassionate care, superior science and exceptional health education.

The logo’s open book represents knowledge – a critical foundation of professional education – and future breakthroughs. Rising from these pages is a stylized DNA double helix, the basis of life that symbolizes Texas A&M Health Science Center's commitment to sharing knowledge and translating discoveries into life-changing procedures, technologies and practices. This mark also affirms the HSC’s dedication to making discoveries and improving lives across the state, around the nation and throughout the world. Combined with the tagline, “Bringing Learning to Life,” the new logo has been carefully designed to serve as a symbol that the public, staff, faculty, students and alumni may immediately recognize. It is no less than our organization’s “signature,” and by using it properly, we protect and enhance our collective identity.

Consistent application and precise production of the logo will reinforce public awareness of the Health Science Center, resulting in a unique and effective visual style and stronger, more unified presence. A number of specific guidelines have been articulated in the HSC brand guide and distributed to the respective communications specialists throughout our Health Science Center.

Among the requirements articulated in the styleguide

  1. The college or school name should not appear alone as a symbol without the other three elements, and the size relationships among the various elements should not be changed.
  2. The symbol, letters or words should not be altered or distorted to achieve a special effect.
  3. The HSC symbol may only appear alone if used with the system name, HSC name and, if applicable, the academic unit name elsewhere within the communication or as part of a comprehensive signage program.

The logos of the Health Science Center and each of its academic units include four basic elements: the HSC symbol, the A&M System name, our university name and, if applicable, academic unit or office name.

These new designs replace the existing component seals and/or logos, except for legal uses and extenuating circumstances. More information and links for downloading the logos are available here.

Please contact Mr. Gary Henryson, Associate Vice President for Marketing and Communications, should you have any questions or need additional information.

The institutional insignia provides a graphic expression of the distinctive calling of the Texas A&M Health Science Center. In the lower part of the emblem, the open book symbolizes knowledge – not only the empirical and practical acuity that forms the foundation of professional education, but also the discoveries yet to be made. Concurrently, the book denotes the sound moral and ethical underpinnings of our institution and its aspirations.

Rising from the book’s pages is a symbol of our vital enterprise – the sharing of knowledge with others and the transferring of discoveries into life-altering techniques and technologies. The symbol –  evocative at one moment of the Caduceus, at another of the double-helix of DNA – climbs flame-like to suggest the zeal with which we pursue new understandings, share our wisdom, and devote ourselves to improving lives in Texas, the nation and the world.

Identity Symbol

The logo for the Texas A&M Health Science Center includes three basic elements: the HSC symbol, the system name and the HSC name.

  • The size relationships between the various elements should not be changed. As any part of the symbol is enlarged or reduced, the entire symbol must be altered accordingly.
  • At no time should the symbol, letters or words be altered or distorted to achieve a special effect.
  • The HSC symbol may only appear alone if it is used with the system name and the HSC name elsewhere within the communication or as part of a comprehensive signage program.

The Symbol’s Environment

The HSC symbol is not to be combined with the seals or logos of any of its members or the HSC Legal Seal. The symbol should be seen in its entirety and should not be obscured by text or art. The symbol should always have a window of space around it so that background colors or elements do not appear to be part of the HSC symbol.
