Outlook Configuration for Laptops without VPN
This tutorial will walk you through step by step instructions on how to set up Microsoft Outlook to receive and send emails on a laptop/desktop when not connected directly to the HSC network.
If you already have Outlook setup on your computer, please start at Section 2. If you do not have Outlook setup on your computer, please start at Section 1.

Section 1 - Outlook is NOT setup on the computer
STEP 1
Click on the “START” button, highlight “All Programs”, “Microsoft Office”, click on “Microsoft Outlook”.

Put a check mark in the “Auto Account Setup” dialog box. This will allow for manual configuration of the settings that will be needed. Click “Next >”.
STEP 2

Choose the “Microsoft Exchange” email service. Click “Next >”.
STEP 3

In “Microsoft Exchange Server:” dialog box type "webmail.tamhsc.edu". In the “User Name:” dialog box type in your HSC login user id. Then click the “More Settings…” button.
STEP 4
Click on the “Connection” tab at the top. Put a check mark in the box “Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP” then click the “Exchange Proxy Settings…” button.
STEP 5
Under the Connection settings section type “webmail.tamhsc.edu” in the dialog box. Put a check mark in both “On fast networks…” and “On slow networks…” and change the “Proxy authentication settings” to “Basic Authentication”. Click “OK”.
STEP 6

Click “Finish”.
STEP 7

You will get a Pop-Up box like this one EVERY TIME you open up MS Outlook. This is how you log on to the HSC Email system. In the User Name space type “tamhsc\your user name” and then your password. Make sure you type “tamhsc\” or Outlook will not connect correctly and produce an error.
Section 2 - Outlook is already setup on the computer
STEP 1
At the top of your MS Outlook program, click on “Tools”. With your mouse, click on “Account Settings…”
STEP 2
Double click on the entry that has your email address and under “Type” says “Exchange…”
STEP 3
Click the “More Settings…” button.
STEP 4
Click on the “Connection” tab at the top. Put a check mark in the box “Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP” then click the “Exchange Proxy Settings…” button.
STEP 5
Under the Connection settings section type “webmail.tamhsc.edu” in the dialog box. Put a check mark in both “On fast networks…” and “On slow networks…” and chance the “Proxy authentication settings” to “Basic Authentication”. Click “OK”.

Click “Finish”.
