Telecommunications

Through efforts in telecommunications technology, OIT links individuals within the TAMHSC to their colleagues and to the world. With Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), OIT delivers features and capabilities to our campus communities that are not available on standard telephones. Integration of the VoIP technology into our institution translates to a savings of time and money in an age of limited resources.

VoIP Communications

The Voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP system, communicates across the network rather than using traditional phone wiring. It allows features and capabilities not available in standard telephones. VoIP technology is predicted to be the future of voice communication for both wired, wireless, and cellular voice and video communication. Currently, VoIP is being used at several TAMHSC locations across Texas including Bryan/College Station, Houston, Temple and Round Rock.

VoIP also reduces time and costs when phones need to be moved. Most of the savings from a new phone system, commonly called a private branch exchange (PBX), is due to a computerized switch that allows many phones to use relatively few incoming and outgoing lines. Features such as call forwarding, caller ID, and voicemail also typically come at a lower cost.

See the guides below for using the VoIP system. Note: Some guides are location specific.
