Preparing to Give a Lecture and Recording

For a short transitional period, it will be necessary to use Camtasia in a PC-Windows XP environment for recording lectures due to compatibility issues. If you are a MAC user you should copy your Lecture to a PC-Formatted CD or schedule time to pre-test your media prior to your Lecture. A more flexible system will be available in a few months. In the meantime, a set of guidelines are being provided to make your use of Camtasia for recording of Voice-Over PowerPoint presentations easier and to produce the best quality product for the students possible with this technology.

Guidelines:

For computer presentations to be recorded, the material should be displayed from the Lecture Hall or Classroom computer.

  • The preferred method for delivering presentations can be e-mailed 24 hours in advance to: scheduler@medicine.tamhsc.edu
  • Amended presentations must be submitted 30 minutes ahead of time to replace your previously submitted presentation from USB memory stick, CD/DVD.
  • Include in the presentation folder any other externally linked files such as PowerPoint, PDF (Acrobat), html (internet), graphic, movie, and text.
  • For teaching with web/internet sites, bookmarks can be transferred to the computer in a text file.

Preparing a PowerPoint Presentations Tips

  • Use light backgrounds and dark letters
  • Use standard Microsoft Fonts
  • Do not use Slide transition feature in PowerPoint
  • Text slides should be retyped into the PowerPoint
  • 35 mm slides should be converted and embedded into PowerPoint.
  • Include in a folder with the presentation file any other files that are externally linked to it (such as movies), or else embed the external file(s) into the presentation file.
  • For teaching with web/internet sites, bookmarks can be transferred to the teaching computer in a text file.
  • For best reproduction of graphic images and animations (including those imbedded in PowerPoint and Acrobat presentations) use .jpg or .gif formats for graphics, and .avi, .mpg or .mov (quicktime) for animations.
  • Simple animations in presentations work acceptably with the screen-sharing software. Please keep in mind when creating PPT, more complex multimedia and movie files may not work as well across the net and may require testing in advance.
