What does FAQ stand for?
"FAQ" stands for frequently asked questions.

Is my computer covered for service by HSC-OIT?
If your machine is listed on inventory, then your machine can be serviced by the Office of Information Technology. 

Does HSC-OIT service Hewlett Packard (HP)  Printers?
Yes! In fact, our technicians are very experienced and are able to solve most technical problems related to HP printing problems.

Does HSC-OIT do any consulting for purchasing new departmental computers?
Yes. We actually highly recommend it! We have years of experience with the equipment you use everyday, and our expertise is not only useful for getting you exactly what you need, but it helps us when you are purchasing equipment we are familiar with. Also, we are generally able to find the best prices available for you.

Does HSC-OIT service laptops?
Yes. We have experience servicing a wide-variety of laptops and our laptop services are usually in a turn around time of 4 hours.  We will do a 15 point check on your laptop to make sure that it is up-to-date in compliance and able to connect to HSC resources.

Do you offer personal desktop support or can I bring in my home machine for service?
No. We are currently offering no personal home desktop support, though we offer free advice for any questions you may have about your home computer.

Can I bring my own wireless router from home?
No! Personal wireless routers are prohibited and will be confiscated.  Their use is considered as a disruptive network device.  No computer, laptop printer or other device should be connected to a network port without OIT approval of the device.  

Do you provide services for Apple products?
Yes! Our technicians are well trained on both Macs and PCs. We have many years of experience working with all Mac operating systems. Please do not hesitate to call us with you Mac questions!

Can I purchase Microsoft Software at a reduced price for personal use at home?
Yes. All Health Science Center faculty, staff and students are eligible, under the Microsoft Licensing Agreement, to purchase drastically reduced priced Microsoft software through Information Resources. You can purchase the software online at http://software.tamu.edu and log in using your NetID. Some individuals many need to be added to the database. If you have any problems accessing this information, please call the Help Desk.

Can I get the Scott and White address book on my computer?
No, but we can provide a way to lookup a name from your desktop Outlook client (LDAP).  (this will require a technician to come to your computer, please contact the HSC Help Desk for this service).
