Viewing the HSC Global Address List (GAL)

The information below is written specifically for the Motorola Q, but should be the same concept for all other Windows Mobile phones that are connected to our Exchange server.

You can view a global address list (GAL) from the Exchange Server on your phone. This means you can find a contact’s phone number or e-mail without having to store the information directly to your phone.

GAL information can only be viewed during a data transfer session; the entire GAL cannot be stored for viewing offline.

Here’s how to use GAL to search for a contact:
  1. Press "Start > Contacts".
  2. In the contact list, press "Menu > Find Online".
  3. Scroll through the list of entries displayed. When you locate your contact, press the "Call/Answer key" to make a call.

Although the entire GAL cannot be stored on your phone, once the contact is found, you can add the single contact to your contact list. You can also choose to send a message, SMS or e-mail to a contact found using GAL. In a new message or e-mail, press Menu > Find Online. When you locate the contact to send a message, highlight and select it. The e-mail information is populated into the To: Field.

How to Remote Wipe

Please note that this is specifically for Windows Mobile Device phones

The Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync Mobile Administration Web tool in Microsoft Exchange 2003 sp2 has the ability to remotely erase mobile devices. The ability to perform a remote wipe is useful when an end user loses his or her mobile device, or if the device is stolen and there is a risk that personal or confidential information could be accessed.

Call the Help Desk if you lose your Windows Mobile device phone that was connected with our Exchange server and we can wipe it for you.
