About HSC's E-mail System

E-mail is an critical communication tool for the HSC. The unified e-mail system of the HSC works in parallel with our Active Directory which serves as the central-authentication system for our institution.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How much server space is allocated for my email account?

    HSC staff and faculty have 1gigabyte and HSC students have 500 megabytes.  These limits were set by the Health Science Center Executive Committee.

 

Q. How can I find out how much server space I’m currently using for my email account?

    You will log into your Outlook Client and right click on “Mailbox – Username”, select “Properties”,  and click on the “Folder Size” button.  It is not possible to check your HSC email server space from webmail but there are ample warnings given via mail messages which start at 75% capacity.

 

Q.  How can I get more space in my e-mail account?

    To request an exception to the size limit, a formal memo should be given to your dean or vice president.  The request should be addressed to the CIO for consideration.

 

Q. As a alumni, do I get to keep my email account?

    Alumni do not get to keep their email accounts.

 

Q. As a retiree, do I get to keep my email account?

    Retiree’s do not get to keep their email accounts.

 

Q. How long after I leave the HSC will I have access to my email account?

    Students are allowed 60 days access to their email after they leave the HSC. Faculty and staff are not allowed access to email after they leave unless otherwise approved by their department head or dean.

 

Q. Is there a limit on the size of attachments that can be sent over HSC email?

    When sending emails internally your attachment sizes cannot be over 150 megabytes whether sending or receiving.  We do recommend that you keep your attachments under 50 megabytes. When sending emails externally your attachment sizes cannot be over 150 megabytes whether sending or receiving. However it should be a noted that many external mail systems will accept no larger than 20MB (ie. Yahoo, Gmail).

    Other –  You will use your HSC username and password,”webmail.tamhsc.edu” as the server name ,”tamhsc” as the domain, and when asked to use “SSL” you should select to use it.
