PURCHASING TIP
When purchasing your laptop, consider purchasing an extra battery and power adapter. You may find it helpful in the event your primary battery is drained and you are not able to recharge. Also, having an extra power adapter allows you carry one with you and leave the other at home or work.

Purchasing Software

As an HSC student, the following software is available to you at drastically reduced prices (and in some cases FREE).  Visit the TAMU Sell [https://software.tamu.edu], select TAMHSC for your campus, and login with your HSC Username and Password to see what you are eligible to purchase.

What benefits will I receive when I order my HSC laptop?

All laptops offered by OIT are robust, business class models designed for the type of computing that will be required. Some of the benefits you will receive when you purchase the HSC required laptop are:

We are working closely with Dell to get your warrantied replacement parts so you don't have to hassle with tech support. Any problem you have with your laptop after purchase will be streamlined by our department to get you back up and running as soon as possible.

Do I have to buy the HSC laptop?

NO. However, if you do not purchase the required HSC laptop you will receive no computer support.  You will be responsible for your own repairs and software management. You should be prepared to fix problems as they arise on your own or be prepared to take your laptop to a retail support provider to diagnose your computer.  

Average cost:  $75/diagnosis plus repair costs.  
Average time:  Varies, but your laptop will be unavailable to you for several days to sometimes over a week.  You will need a contingency plan for these times.
