Is my computer covered for service by Information Technology?
If your machine is listed on inventory or as Research Foundation equipment, then your machine should have already been paid for by your department to be serviced.

Does Information Technology service HP Printers?
Yes! In fact, our technicians are very experienced and are able to solve most technical problems related to HP printing problems.

Does Information Technology do any consulting for purchasing new departmental computers?
Yes. We actually highly recommend it! We have years of experience with the equipment you use everyday, and our expertise is not only useful for getting you exactly what you need, but it helps us when you are purchasing equipment we are familiar with. Also, we are generally able to find the best prices available for you.

Do you service laptops?
Yes. We have experience servicing a wide-variety of laptops and our laptop services can be found here. If you are wanting to use any laptop on our network, you will need to bring it to our office in 048 MSL to make sure you have the latest virus protection and spy-ware removal tools, to insall the Cisco VPN Client for wireless access, and to check for all software compliance. All of our virus/spyware prevention, and VPN software comes free of charge!

Do you offer personal desktop support? (Can I bring in my home machine for service?)
No. We are currently offering no personal home desktop support, though we offer free advice for any questions you may have about your home computer.

Can I bring my own wireless router from home?
No! Personal wireless routers are prohibited and will be confiscated. There are currently wireless access points available for all users in the Reynolds Lobby, the Life Savor Cafe, and the LRU. We are working hard to bring you wireless access points on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors of Reynolds.

I have a Macintosh. Do you still provide support for Mac users?
Our technicians are well trained on both Macs and PCs. We have many years of experience working with all Mac operating systems. Please do not hesitate to call us with you Mac questions!

Can I purchase Microsoft Software at a reduced price for personal use at home?
Yes. All Health Science Center employees and students are eligible, under the Microsoft Licensing Agreement, to purchase drastically reduced priced Microsoft software through Information Resources. You can purchase the software online at http://software.tamu.edu and log in using your NetID. Currently you can purchase Windows XP Professional for $10, and Microsoft Office 2003 (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher, Access) for $15. There are other Microsoft products available as well as free McAfee virus protection software for your home computer.
