Debbie Field, M.A., is the Associate Vice President for Public Affairs. She began her service with the health science center in 2008 with the Office of Governmental Affairs and assumed her current position in October 2012.
During her nearly 15-year career in communications, Field has served a diverse portfolio of corporate and public sector clients across a wide range of industries, including local and state government, health care, biotechnology, and higher education. From directing public affairs and media relations efforts to overseeing a regional public relations team in the agency setting, her strategic approach to communications has garnered statewide and national coverage in esteemed outlets such as USA Today, Texas Monthly and the Austin American-Statesman.
Additionally, Field brings distinct experience in the areas of crisis management, product rollout and event coordination. She also was instrumental in rebranding a Bexar County municipality that gained national attention for its innovative revitalization efforts in a formerly declining area of the city.
Field obtained a Bachelor of Science in agricultural journalism with an emphasis in public relations from Texas A&M University, followed by a Master of Arts in mass communications summa cum laude from Texas State University in San Marcos. Her work in media relations and publications management earned Bronze and Silver Quill Awards from the International Association of Business Communicators in 2005.
