On the Texas-Mexico border, McAllen is one of the major gateways into the United States from our neighbor to the south. Here you’ll find lots to do. It’s a fun place to spend a few hours, a few days or a lifetime. Spring in McAllen is especially beautiful. Every color of flower is in bloom, bright birds fly overhead everywhere you look, and the palm fronds rustle.  Speaking of the past, you’ll find plenty of history to remind you of the good old days. The renovated historic downtown architecture is amazing. However, McAllen has plenty of the modern about it, too, since we are considered one of the country’s fastest growing cities.

That fast growth is one of the reasons the Texas A&M Health Science Center (HSC) decided to open its McAllen Campus in 2000. At this campus, we provide comprehensive, accessible health education programs and services to residents of the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas.

In 2004, the McAllen Campus opened the doors to a 23,000-square-foot facility providing space for laboratories, offices, classrooms and conference areas used to deliver a wide range of health training, clinical research, medical education, community interventions and public health programs with local partners. This location helps the HSC with one of our primary goals, serving the underserved.
