Scott & White

Scott & WhiteFounded in 1897, Scott & White has evolved into one of the largest integrated multi-specialty health care systems in the United States. Its facilities include a 486-bed hospital with admissions totaling over 21,000 each year, an extensive clinic with an average of 1,300,000 outpatient visits per year, a 185,000-member health maintenance organization, and a perinatal center that provides care for mothers with complicated pregnancies and critically ill infants in Central Texas. In addition to its primary facility in Temple, Scott & White maintains 18 regional clinics elsewhere in Central Texas. In 1974, Scott & White became the principal teaching partner with the College of Medicine.

Central Texas Veterans Health Care System

Central Texas Veterans Health Care SystemCentral Texas Veterans Health Care System is one of the largest Veterans Affairs medical consortiums in the United States, with a staff of approximately 2,700 and a budget of almost $240 million. Located in Temple, the Olin E. Teague Veterans Center is the largest component of the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System. Established in 1942, the 1,200-bed medical center serves veterans in a 35-county area in Central Texas. The center includes a 300-bed teaching hospital with general medical, surgical and psychiatric beds, a 408-bed domiciliary complex, a nursing home care unit, medical research laboratory facilities and the A&M Health Science Center's Cardiovascular Research Institute. The center has been a principal teaching teaching partner with the College of Medicine since the college's inception.

Darnall Army Medical Center

Darnall Army Community HospitalLocated at Fort Hood in Killeen, Darnall Army Medical Center handles approximately one million annual outpatient visits and 11,315 hospital admissions per year. Darnall is another key affiliate of the College of Medicine, offering further opportunities for clinical education of the college's students. In addition to Darnall's family practice and emergency medicine residence programs, the hospital is accredit-ed to train residents in orthopedics, general surgery, obstetrics and psychiatry. It is one of only three Army hospitals that train physicians in emergency medicine, and is recognized for its excellent trauma center, Women's Health Center and 22 specialty clinics.

Driscoll Children's Hospital

Driscoll Children's HospitalServing the children of Corpus Christi and South Texas since 1953, Driscoll Children's Hospital is a 200-bed, tertiary care, regional referral center that offers many comprehensive medical and surgical services to meet the unique needs of children. The hospital began an affiliation with the College of Medicine in June 1998 that is providing expanded learning opportunities within the college's medical education program. The hospital annually admits over 6,500 children to its 40-bed neonatal intensive care unit, its 20-bed pediatric intensive care unit and its 128 acute-care beds.

Texas Medical Center

Aerial view of the Texas Medical CenterThe Texas Medical Center, the world's largest medical center, is located in Houston. Its 42 member institutions are all not-for-profit and dedicated to the highest standards of patient and preventive care, research, education and the well-being of the local, national and international communities. Home of the first and largest air emergency service, it also includes 13 hospitals and two specialty institutions, two medical schools, four nursing schools and schools of dentistry, public health, pharmacy, and virtually all other health-related professions. The Institute of Biosciences and Technology has been a member institution since 1992 and benefits from the useful collaborations made possible by location in this world-renowned organization.

Partnerships with the six nursing schools in the A&M System--Prairie View A&M University, Tarleton State University, Texas A&M International University, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M University-Texarkana and West Texas A&M University--are resulting in collaborations in nursing education and recruitment.
